Jason is Injured in Battle
So this scene was cut for pacing reasons. I mainly wrote it because I love an injured guy to add drama (just ask my younger self about her fanficiont…yikes) and the ending was funny. It didn’t really contribute anything relevant to the plot. This scene takes place somewhere in Chapter 31.
As always, these deleted scenes have not been edited in any way apart from my own self-revision.
At the last second before being sandwiched, Jason felt a searing pain in the back of his legs. He looked back and saw the red dragon's tail had pierced them. The dragon, angry at Jason for the wound, brutally swept Jason off his feet and he skidded a hundred feet behind a rock. Looking up he saw the dragons collide, followed by a confused commotion among them. Through a thick curtain of smoke, he saw the red dragon writhing around in the distance. Then it stopped. Jason strained his eyes to see better through the smoke. He thought he saw the dragon shrink before his eyes. Then he saw a small figure look at itself, then dash into the forest. An intense pulsing stole Jason’s attention to his calves, which were split open, and bleeding profusely. Jason wasn't going to let that stop him. He tried to stand up, but he collapsed. His legs were not strong enough to hold him anymore. Gritting his teeth, Jason crawled slowly towards the forest. He was almost there. At that moment, he was momentarily blinded by an explosion directly to his right. The dragons were at it again. Jason stumbled as he tried to stand back up. He felt the blood running down his legs into his shoes. His back started to burn, as the explosions closed in. At least they were such poor shots. Jason could no longer feel his legs and he felt like he wasn't going to make it. Jason collapsed. With eyes squeezed shut, he was stricken with an unknown terror. He was going to die. Roars grew louder as the dragons surrounded him. A blinding blanket of fire far bigger than any of the last ones streaked above him and hit the dragons. At that moment, the dragons disbanded in a panic and flew back towards the Iron Gates, leaving behind a silent battlefield exhaling smoke. Jason leaned back and screamed as the full pain of his wounds finally sunk in. He was unaware of the rhythmic beating of wings that grew louder and louder until Melanie shrieked, “Jason!”
“Jason!” she cried again, and skidded to a stop at her brother's side. He was gasping and pulling at the grass below him.
“Hey,” Jason stammered, “Where were you?”
“We gotta get out of here. We need to regroup. Now!”
Scalaed bent down, and Melanie tried to carefully lift Jason. With one final push, he was slumped over Scalaed's neck.
“Scalaed, go!” she demanded, and she held onto Jason as Scalaed flew into the forest.
They landed in the middle of camp, and Melanie started calling for help. There was a bustling of people as they ran about Scalaed, taking Jason off and loading him onto a stretcher.
Elken galloped into camp and jumped off, hugging Melanie, “I'm so glad you're safe!” he said as he held her tight.
Melanie nodded quickly and ordered, “You need to tell everyone to double back and regroup this instant! There’s no time to explain; Helnah is coming!”
Elken’s eyes widened, but obeyed immediately and mounted Silvedus, spurring him back to the battlefield.
Melanie entered the medical tent just in time to see Jason yell at a doctor, “Ow, you moron! Give me that!” Jason snatched a small knife, “Man, you suck.” His head was sweaty, and he was livid. He punched another doctor, who was about to do something that, in Jason's mind, was totally unnecessary. His mind started to race as the medicine information started to flood it. Now, Jason was completely clarified and shouted as loud as he could, “All you idiots, get out!”
Startled, and fearing he was going to unleash a can of crazy, the doctors and operators exited the room. One nurse warned Melanie, “He needs to calm down. Maybe you can help?” she looked nervously at Jason, then left the tent.
Melanie was at Jason's side in an instant.
“Jason?” she asked softly.
Her brother was breathing heavily, but he answered, “Morons. They're all morons.”
“They're just doing their job,” she explained.
“Yeah? A really sucktastic job. They would have nearly killed me if they used that!” he pointed to a small jug of … something.
Jason rolled his eyes and gasped, “They wrapped my legs up, and even that only just passes my approval. Help me up.”
Melanie was quiet as Jason grabbed a bunch of stuff and started doing this and that with ointments and tools.
Before long, Jason had successfully fixed himself up. He sighed and plopped back down on the cot.
“Wow,” Melanie noted.
Jason folded his arms and stared at her.
“What?” she shrugged.
“It's not you I'm staring at,” he grumbled.
Melanie turned and saw a couple of the doctors gawking at Jason, but they went on their way when Jason gave them his glare. Jason grabbed a pair of crutches and huffed past the doctors with a look that read “I have no medical training yet I know more than you guys who do.”
Melanie was behind Jason and heard him mumble once more, “Primitives.”
