Huzzah for a book that puts adventure at the helm! And as a sucker for creative world-building, I thank Brady Hunsaker for a good ol’ fantasy like something from my childhood. The premise of the depths is great, the descriptions are fantastical, and with a large cast, there’s plenty of favorites to choose from. With already a strong writing style, I would have just liked to see more detail in body language aside from a character clutching a weapon when anxious and when they smile/smirk. Lots of internal dialogue could have been translated physically that I feel could have fleshed out the characters more [for me]. I was inside the characters’ heads so much, I started to not see the rest of the scene. Give me an eye twitching in anger, restless hand flexing from nerves, foot tapping in anxiety, nose flaring in wrath, chin quavering from grief. Just a small tidbit that—for me—would have made the characters a bit more immersive.

Overall, an enjoyable read and a refreshing adventure with lots of fun magic!!
