Trey and Sophie Make the News
My favorite boneheaded “hunters” return in this snippet that takes place, I guess, in the middle of Chapter 8. These weren’t super important characters we needed to know more about—more of background comic relief—and was cut for pacing and relevance. It was funny though.
As always, these deleted scenes have not been edited in any way apart from my own self-revision.
“That’s good, because look what aired yesterday,” Jason held up his phone. A man in front of a canyon backdrop ran shaky hands through his messy long hair. “I’m telling you guys, it’s out there!” He told the reporter. His partner, a girl with pink-streaked blonde hair in space buns gripped his arm. “My poor Trey has to go to therapy thanks to the beast. Someone needs to kill it!”
Trey muttered as he dissociated, and Sophie caressed his face, calling him every pet name in the book.
The feed cut back to the news anchor, who narrated robotically, “This is the first time rumor of the alleged Grand Canyon dragon has resurfaced since last year, and tourists are concerned.”
Melanie’s heart dropped as Jason lowered the phone. “It’s time you remind Scalaed of the dangers his recklessness will cost him.”
“Believe me,” Melanie shook her head. “I will.”
